
The research project Journey into the Guernica has been presented by the Department of Conservation-Restoration of the Reina Sofia Museum with the support of Telefónica Foundation. This project aims to make the most comprehensive study to date on the conservation status of Guernica, one of the major works of Pablo Picasso.
For the implementation of the project has been designed and constructed a robotic automation of 9 meters long and 3.5 meters tall, computer-controlled moving ahead of the work with accuracy of 25 microns and incorporates various sensors and cameras that during the scanning process of the picture, bring millions of pictures in high resolution and absolutely accurate data. It used recent technological advances in visible light, infrared multispectral, ultraviolet light, spectral reflectography and 3D scanning.
